Afraid of Your Own Shadow? Perhaps, You Should Be.

Journal Shadow Story

See more details in the Milwaukee Sentinel Story

This story, which appeared in the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel on May 22, 1920, concerns the mysterious and untimely death of a 9-year-old boy. Little Raymond Naatz once lived in what is now known as Milwaukee’s Lincoln Village neighborhood. According to his estranged parents, he began acting strangely after his recovery from the measles.

Raymond seemed paralyzed by fear, but he didn’t want to talk about it. He finally admitted that a strange white shadow was the cause of his unrest. It had been following him, haunting him with the knowledge of his impending death. The next day Raymond drowned in Lake Michigan. Read all the chilling details in the full article.

Did Raymond commit suicide? Did a complication of his measles infection cause these strange delusions? Or was something more sinister to blame? We will never know. In my opinion, this is one of the scariest local ghost stories I have encountered. If you have a scarier Milwaukee ghost story, I’d love to hear it. Please call 414-807-7862 or email
